About the Role:
Join Maxim Nyansa Foundation as a Computer Hardware & Refurbishment Center Manager, where you'll lead the daily operations of our refurbishment center dedicated to providing reliable technology for educational projects. We are committed to empowering young Africans through IT and digital skills development, making this a pivotal role in our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the daily operations of the Computer Hardware & Refurbishment Center.
• Supervise technicians, trainees, interns, and volunteers involved in refurbishment activities.
• Receive, inspect, classify, and document computers and other ICT equipment entering the center.
• Coordinate hardware diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, component replacement, upgrading, cleaning, and refurbishment.
• Supervise the installation and configuration of operating systems, drivers, educational applications, security software, and other approved software.
• Establish and enforce quality-control procedures to ensure refurbished equipment is fully functional before deployment.
• Manage spare parts, tools, accessories, computer components, and refurbishment supplies.
• Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment received, under repair, refurbished, deployed, used for spare parts, or approved for responsible disposal.
• Plan refurbishment schedules and allocate tasks to meet project and deployment deadlines.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware and software problems and provide technical guidance to the refurbishment team.
• Coordinate the preparation, packaging, and handover of computers for school computer-lab installations and other projects.
• Support computer-laboratory setup, equipment installation, networking, and technical testing where required.
• Ensure appropriate data-wiping procedures are followed before donated or previously used storage devices are redeployed.
• Promote proper handling of electronic equipment and environmentally responsible management of electronic waste.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient technical working environment.
• Prepare periodic reports on refurbishment output, equipment status, inventory, faults, spare-parts usage, and center performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve refurbishment efficiency, equipment quality, cost management, and technical processes.
• Support the practical training and mentoring of young technicians and trainees.
What We're Looking For:
• A degree, HND, or relevant professional qualification in Computer Hardware, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong practical experience in computer hardware diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment.
• Good knowledge of desktops, laptops, storage devices, RAM, motherboards, power supplies, processors, peripherals, and related components.
• Experience supervising a technical workshop, refurbishment center, repair facility, computer laboratory, or similar environment is highly desirable.
• Commitment to mentoring and developing young people.
Requirements
Required:
• 3+ years of experience in computer hardware diagnostics, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment.
• Strong practical skills in computer repair and refurbishment.
• Experience installing and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux operating systems, drivers, applications, and basic networks.
• Leadership and team-management skills.
• Good understanding of inventory and asset-management procedures.
Nice-to-Have:
• Knowledge of data security, secure data wiping, occupational safety, and responsible e-waste management.
• Previous experience leading technicians, trainees, interns, or technical teams.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
